Last term we raised $203.75 at our Grade 1 market. All the Grade 1s voted on which charity to send our money to. We decided to donate it to Goulburn Valley Health because it is a local hospital and lots of us have been there before.
Today, Carmel from GV Health came along to our Grade 1 meeting so we could give her the money we raised for the hospital. She told us that our money will be used to buy two new asthma machines that will be used in the kid’s ward.
We would like to thank all the Grade 1s for raising the money by cooking lots of yummy food and the parents and friends who came and bought our food. There will be children who now benefit from the new asthma machines thanks to you.
I am finally on our class blog at home. I watched all the videos on our class..
Just a reminder that tonight we are having our Welcome BBQ at school. This is a great chance for you to come along and check out what we’ve been up to in the classroom as well as come in for a chat with me! It kicks off at 5:30pm with games and a BBQ out on the oval and then classrooms will be opened up at 6:30pm until 7pm. I hope to see you all there!
Today in writing, we put on our creative hats and had a go at doing some speed writing. We were given a topic and had 5 minutes to write as much as we could. Here are our favourite pieces.
I went to see the pirates ship and I went with my mum and dad.
One day there was a pirate. He loves to find lots of treasure. He loves to sail the seas. He has lots of jewels. He finds lots of treasure maps and finds the x mark spot on the islands.
Pirates like to eat vegies and they like to eat carrot.
There are words about pirates: treasure, naughty, steal, gold, ship, skeleton, flag, telescope, map, parrot, cabin, window, box, sea and hat. P I R A T E S!
When I grow up I want to be a pirate and I want a crew. I want a ship made of gold. Argh! We want to find a treasure chest. I want a ship.
I like pirates because they’re big and noisy. Doors always bang when pirates open them. Some have hooks on their hands.
I love pirates. Pirates love gold and money. Pirates love treasure.
In the 26 Story Treehouse there is a pirate called Captain Woodhead and he tries to capture them. But the Golzowow eats him for tea and the sharks help Golzowow. They don’t even have to take him there. His head has got all sorts of mouldy stuff on it.
A pirate lived in a boat. He found treasure in a chest. it was underground. the next day he was floating in the water.
I have a best friend. His name is Xeven. At lunchtime, I am going to play with him and I am going to play races with him. I am also playing with big Hussain. I will play with him too.
Friends are nice because they play with. Tegan and Lilly play with me. They are friendly to me. They help me tot. It is nice to help.
My friends are named Rhianna, Lilly and Olivia. They are my bestest friends.
They play together. They are friendly to each other. They play at each other’s houses.
I love my friends and they love me. They help you.
I like friends because they help you if you’re hurt and they come over for play dates and sleepovers.
I love my friends because they are friendly and they help me. My friends are Archer and Noah. I knew Noah since I was a little baby.
My friends are Ethan and Cain and Archer and Sean.
I have a friend. She moved to Sydney. I am her best friend. I hope she comes here quickly because I want to see her soon.
Friends play together. It is fun. They always be together.
I like my friends Ethan and Brody and Sean.
Friends play with the balls.
Welcome to the 2015 school year and a huge welcome to our class JAS.
We are beginning our year with the “Learning How to Learn” program for the first 5 days. Over this time your child will be participating in many games and activities that will help them develop confidence, meet new friends and develop skills and strategies to encourage cooperative work and play in their new class. They will also be involved in establishing our classroom rights and responsibilities to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
A reminder that school starts at 8.55am and students need to be inside and ready to start the day at this time. The door will be open at 8.45am to allow your child to put their bag inside and get organised for the day. School finishes at 3.15pm. Please arrange to meet your child outside as the corridors can get busy at this time.
All children will have the opportunity to choose a take home book each night. It would be wonderful if you could spend time reading with your child each school evening. Each student is required to have a book wallet to put their book and any notes handed out in. At the beginning of the year, your child will receive a reading log book. Each night, after reading the book with your child, can you please sign your name to acknowledge that the book was read that night. Please ensure all take home books are returned to school.
Please remember to send along a hat, art smock and library bag with you child. All students will have a chance to borrow library books on a Thursday during our library session. Please make sure you have named your child’s belongings clearly.
A general reminder that if your child is absent from school, a note explaining the absence needs to be sent with the student on return to school.
Your child will continue to have plenty of opportunity to engage in inquiry learning this year. There may be times where you can come in and offer extra knowledge on an area we are learning about so please keep an eye out for any notes asking for volunteers to visit the classrooms.
Please know that you are always welcome in JAS, we love having visitors and helpers in our class. Reading will start at 8.45am every morning and run until the second bell at 8:50am. Any assistance at this time would be greatly appreciated. Also note that assembly is on every second Friday afternoon and it would be great to see you there.
Our class blog will be used throughout the year to share what we’ve been learning in the classroom with you all. I encourage you all to comment on posts throughout the year as the students love hearing and reading what people have to say about what we’ve been doing!
2015 promises to be a busy and exciting year here in grade one and I am very much looking forward to working with your child. I can’t wait to meet you and your family over the coming weeks. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
I look forward to getting to know you all throughout the year!
Here’s your last writing challenge for the year! Good luck!
